A chapter in Green and Blue Economy Frameworks for Halal Industry Sustainability, 2025, pp 117-131 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract There are growing and considerable interests, concerns and immense efforts toward green and blue economy amongst individuals, organisations as well as governments in the last decades. Environmental sustainability realities, economic and business competitiveness measures drive these environmental, social and economic revolution. Meanwhile, the inherently green and blue halal industry is another sector enjoying rapid growth worldwide with huge untapped potential. Therefore, in halal supply chain lie opportunities and resources that can be tapped by stakeholders to entrench sustainable green and blue economy. However, these are not achievable without an effective and strategic management of halal supply chain. Critical to Supply Chain Management (SCM) and one of the SCM best practices in the modern time is Supply Chain Integration (SCI). As an exploratory review, this chapter reviewed relevant literatures that are gathered from reputable online database such Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, Academia.edu etc. It identified barriers to entrenching green and blue economy and SCI dimensions that can be employed to combat these challenges. Most importantly, it explored and suggested how green and blue economy can be entrenched by halal supply chain through the adoption of robust supply chain integration dimensions and strategies such as Internal Integration (II), Customer Integration (CI) and Supplier Integration (SI).
