Chapter Chapter 8 in A Theoretical Foundation for Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship, 2025, pp 79-88 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In the context of digitalization, ecologicalization, and new globalization, innovation-driven entrepreneurial practices are emerging with cross-level, multi-actor, and iterative properties. Resources are the core elements all innovation-driven entrepreneurial actors use to create value. Therefore, the resource-based view (RBV), an important theory for understanding firm competition and development, plays a fundamental role in revealing the mechanism of innovation-driven entrepreneurship. However, the “D(digitalization)-E(ecologicalization)-NG (new globalization) context” challenges the RBV’s assumptions. For instance, high environmental uncertainty (Nambisan, 2017) is inconsistent with the relatively stable environment emphasized in the RBV. We review the existing RBV literature, especially that in the entrepreneurship field, and explore innovation-driven entrepreneurship from a resource perspective. By doing so, we may further enrich and perhaps even reconstruct the RBV.
