Abstract:
Abstract This chapter underscores the transformative potential of the circular economy (CE) as a framework to address global challenges like resource scarcity, environmental degradation, and climate change. By integrating Digital Transformation (DX), Sustainability Transformation (SX), and Green Transformation (GX), CE can decouple economic growth from resource consumption, fostering innovation and resilience. Technological advancements such as AI, IoT, and blockchain enable traceability, optimize resource flows, and create closed-loop systems, as demonstrated by initiatives such as Mitsubishi Chemical’s AI-driven production and Hitachi’s IoT-enabled monitoring of elevators. Globally, the EU leads in regulatory frameworks, the USA in market-driven innovation, China in industrial symbiosis, and South Korea in technological approaches. Key challenges include high costs, regulatory complexity, and consumer skepticism. Addressing these requires robust policies, public–private partnerships, and consumer engagement. CE’s alignment with carbon neutrality goals highlights its role in fostering resilience, sustainability, and long-term prosperity through innovation, collaboration, and systemic change.
