Chapter Chapter 1 in Researching and Working on the Arabian Peninsula, 2025, pp 1-25 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter begins by discussing the audience and scope of the book. It then delves into the questions of who is “local” on the Arabian Peninsula and who speaks for whom? Next there is a brief overview of the author’s background and work in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Lastly, the author gives several extended examples of research and teaching to highlight elements of cross-cultural communication and confusion.
