Abstract:
Abstract The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic was felt across various domains which included the retail business sector. The retail business sector was the one which was impacted widely but at the same time an opportunity was created for growth and expansion. Those who were able to adapt to new technologies got the competitive advantage. Slowly most of the players in the retail business sector were forced to adopt new technologies for survival even after the Covid-19 pandemic as it had changed the customer’s behavioural pattern on a permanent level. DMart, a one stop supermarket chain, was one of the first few to adopt to new technologies to serve the customers and gain the competitive advantage at the same time. Thus, this study has been carried out to analyse the operations carried out, how efficiently were they carried out, if there were any limitations, and what were the steps of improvement undertaken by DMart during the Covid-19 pandemic period. This study is completely based on data collected from secondary sources. The analysis has been carried for the period 2019–2024 with the help of the annual reports published by DMart for the above-mentioned years. The analysis reveals that DMart has been able to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic efficiently by adopting and implementing newer strategies at the correct time like introduction of DMart App, etc. The study concludes that DMart had maintained its profitability throughout the period 2019–2023 and this will provide a stable financial foundation for future growth of the company.
