Abstract: Abstract In 2014, digital currencies based on blockchain technology such as bitcoin and ethereum began to heat up, which aroused the attention of central banks to carry out research on legal digital currency. With rich technical reserves, the People’s Bank of China accelerated the pace of research on RMB legal digital currency, and RMB legal digital currency was on the verge of emergence. In view of this, Zhuhai and Macao can apply to undertake pilot programs of RMB legal digital currency, so as to promote the internationalization of RMB. This is not only an important means to build a technology corridor in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, but also an important direction for Zhuhai and Macao, especially Macao’s industrial structure transformation, and an important link that connects China to the world. Relying on the technology and financial ecosystem and the unique characteristics of the three monetary zones in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Zhuhai and Macao can apply to undertake pilot programs of cross-border application of RMB legal digital currency, and attract all aspects of the RMB legal digital currency industry chain (including legal digital currency hardware wallet, storage, transaction, circulation, etc.) to settle in Hengqin, so as to build a highland for the application of legal digital currency in the Greater Bay Area.
