Abstract: Zusammenfassung Die Entwicklung der mathematischen Forschung in Indien nahm ihren eigenen autonomen Verlauf. Die bekannten Beiträge in Fächern wie Arithmetik, Algebra, Geometrie und Astronomie der alten Inder bedürfen keiner Wiedererzählung. Die Welt der Mathematik hat den erstaunlichen Entdeckungen der Null, der Erfindung des Dezimalsystems und der Einführung negativer Zahlen gebührend Anerkennung gezollt.
