Chapter Chapter 3 in 2023 Global Financial Turbulence and Economic Outlook, 2024, pp 55-82 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Does the US banking risk lead to a financial crisis? Does the US banking turbulence impact China’s economy? How did the Chinese respond to the international risk? This section discusses the above questions and gives the following viewpoints: First, although the US banking industry is in turmoil and the US regulatory authorities have taken swift measures, the risk of a crisis triggered by the turmoil in the banking industry has not been fundamentally eliminated. The impact of the US banking industry will not only spread within the banking system but also spill over into other areas. The risks of turbulence in the US banking industry have not completely passed. Second, from China’s perspective, both government departments and domestic institutions should deeply examine the economy situation. We need to consider maintaining the security of external financing and the security of foreign assets. Also, we need to pay attention to the possible spillover effects of a dramatic shake-up in US stocks. Third, although the recent turmoil in the US banking sector spread the panic globally, it will not lead to a financial crisis in China.
