Abstract: Abstract This chapter first describes the author’s assignments at the OECD Economics and Statistics Department that began in January 1970, and provides a brief account of the OECD’s work in the runup to and after the collapse of the Bretton Woods system. It then describes the OECD’s pioneering and difficult undertaking of studies on the working and effectiveness of monetary policy in major OECD countries over the 1960s, for the completion of which the author was responsible as Head of OECD Monetary Division.
