Chapter Chapter 3 in China: From Poverty to World Power, 2024, pp 61-116 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract After one century of humiliations, the recovery of China started already during the Mao era. However, it is especially thanks to Deng that China’s long march towards prosperity and world power gained momentum. The content of Deng’s reforms, based upon the introduction of market mechanisms taking place alongside with a revised and limited form of the old planned economy of the Mao era, gives an idea of the scope of Deng’s strategy.
