Abstract:
Abstract In most developing countries, agriculture is the backbone of the economy, providing employment and ensuring a sustainable food supply. Brunei, a developing nation in Southeast Asia, aims to achieve food self-sufficiency by 2035, necessitating enhancements in agricultural productivity and production. This paper examines how entrepreneurial orientation influences the implementation of performance management systems in the agribusiness sector of developing countries. It explores the impact of effective agribusiness management policies, procedures, and practices on agricultural productivity, sustainability, and economic growth. Given the complexity of achieving food self-sufficiency, performance management practices are proposed to streamline strategic processes, enhance coordination, and improve decision-making, thereby boosting organisational and industry performance. However, the effectiveness of these practices is significantly influenced by local entrepreneurial orientation and culture. This chapter investigates the factors affecting the implementation of performance management in Brunei’s agriculture sector, aiming to enrich the understanding of effective management practices and their importance for national sustainability.
