A chapter in Agripreneurship and the Dynamic Agribusiness Value Chain, 2024, pp 227-240 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter discusses the nature of the agribusiness value chain model in developed countries, leveraging insights from an extensive literature review. Specifically, it addresses three central research questions by analyzing 44 papers. The first result shows that agribusiness value chain models in developed countries such as the USA, UK and Canada are characterized by high levels of technological integration and robust infrastructure. Advanced technologies such as precision agriculture, biotechnology, and data analytics are significantly increasing productivity and sustainability in these regions. The second finding highlights the significant challenges facing agribusiness value chains in developing countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Brazil, and Argentina. These challenges include weak infrastructure, limited access to financial services, and institutional constraints that hinder efficiency and productivity. The third finding suggests that developing countries can learn valuable lessons from developed countries’ agribusiness value chain models. Key areas for adaptation include sustainability practices, policy support, and technological innovation. By focusing on improving infrastructure, adopting advanced technologies, and implementing supportive policies, developing countries can increase the efficiency and productivity of their agribusiness value chains. The review highlights the need for continued efforts to bridge the gap in agribusiness practices between developed and developing countries. This chapter concludes with practical implications, limitations, and further research directions to promote the development of more resilient and efficient agribusiness value chains worldwide.
