Abstract:
Abstract Agro-entrepreneurship serves as a driver of economic growth and poverty reduction, particularly in developing countries where agriculture is a primary source of livelihood. Gender is the social differences between men and women, which are learned and transferred to the next generation. This paper aims to discuss how gender representation affects leadership and entrepreneurship relating to the agri-food industry. Based on secondary data collected from online databases literature on the topic is reviewed using the guidelines to search, collect, and organize. To filter the identified bias when selecting articles, the author searched for relevant publications in Google Scholar and other platforms where similar research is published, and sites with non-peer-reviewed articles concerning agro-entrepreneurship, gender representation, and leadership. A total of 110 publications were retrieved from these database searches, of which, 40 most relevant publications that dealt specifically with agro-entrepreneurship, gender representation, and leadership in the publications from 2010 to 2024 were chosen. Findings reveal that agricultural entrepreneurship has emerged. Female farmers encountered restricted access to resources such as land, finance, technology, markets, and cultures that did not encourage them to farm. In conclusion, direction and inspiration are crucial to pave the way to improve agriculture and the solutions must include strong leadership in all the countries.
