Abstract: Abstract The relevance of the agribusiness value chain (AVC) to sustainable economic development and growth in both the developing and developed world cannot be overstressed. In Nigeria, the development of AVC in a sustainable manner calls for an in-depth understanding of its ingredients—AVC prospects, challenges, and solutions, which are scattered in different forms, in the extant literature. Thus, this study aimed at synthesizing those ingredients into a single document, to assist all stakeholders in the domain of AVC to make strategic informed decisions on the advancement of AVC in Nigeria. A systematic literature review methodology was employed for this study. The findings revealed seven stages of AVC that were used as a basis to analyse and synthesize the ingredients. Sequel to this, nine themes to describe the prospects of AVC in Nigeria were identified such as agripreneurship development. For the challenges that could inhibit the development of AVC in the country, this study classified them into ten groups. It then proposed a three-dimensional approach solution to the challenges. The findings of this study suggest that the development of AVC is possible in Nigeria via detailed comprehension and application of this baseline information, regarding the key ingredients of AVC development, by all the stakeholders. Finally, this baseline information is therefore recommended to be used as a guide for future empirical investigation on the subject matter.
