Abstract:
Abstract Agricultural entrepreneurship is a promising approach to improving the sustainability of rural communities. This chapter provides a comprehensive understanding of agricultural entrepreneurship by highlighting the conceptualization of AE, its opportunities, challenges, and best practices to foster sustainability. The study is based on a literature review and case study from the Lebanese context. Hence, this chapter introduces the concept of rural entrepreneurship. Then, it explores the various practices that foster the implementation of sustainability, including value-added products, marketing, community engagement, agro-tourism, and many others. In addition, it pinpoints the challenges encountered by rural communities, comprising economic, social, personal, and environmental barriers. Also, the manuscript demonstrates the relationship between agricultural entrepreneurship and sustainability with a high emphasis on SDGs. The study also draws on recent case studies to achieve a deep knowledge of the best practices in the agriculture field. Finally, this study provides future directions for agricultural entrepreneurs about the necessity to engage in activities and practices that promote the sake of society and the planet such as biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and soil fertility.
