Wealth, Heterogeneous Households, and Gender Division of Labor
Wei-Bin Zhang
Chapter Chapter 3 in An Economic Theory of Gender and Population Change, 2024, pp 33-49 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter, Wealth, Heterogeneous Households and Gender Division of Labor, models the gender division of labor in a framework of growth with heterogeneous households. The framework examines changes in the gender behavior of different groups of people and their interactions. Another important economic issue in this chapter is income and wealth distribution. This chapter provides some theoretical insights into some of the empirical findings. This chapter is organized as follows. Section 3.1 defines the one-sector growth model with gender, leisure time, and heterogeneous groups. Section 3.2 analyzes the dynamic behavior of the three-group model. Section 3.3 examines the impact of changes in some parameters on the work supply of women and men and the wealth and income distribution.
