Abstract: Abstract This chapter clarifies what liberalisation corresponds to specifically in the electricity sector, scrutinise drivers of change in the organising principles of the sector to address what caused electricity liberalisation, and assesses electricity liberalisation with a spatio-temporally holistic perspective. It first begins by examining reflections of neoliberalism on the structure of electricity industry, then investigates drivers of change in the sector by developing a taxonomy for classifying the organising principles of the sector from a historical perspective, and makes an assessment of the global electricity liberalisation.
