Chapter Chapter 2 in Introducing Board Gender Diversity to Sri Lanka, 2023, pp 33-59 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract “The pearl of the Indian ocean” was a phrase used by explorers and travellers to describe Sri Lanka. Formerly known as Ceylon, Sri Lanka is an island situated at the crossroads of the maritime borders in the Indian Ocean, which has made it an important trading hub. This chapter provides a general background on Sri Lanka with a focus on the corporate governance environment and the social setting with specific attention to the patriarchal social and cultural norms affecting women.
