Abstract: Abstract Vietnam is one of the top countries affected by global climate change. In recent years, the Mekong Delta has continuously suffered from severe droughts and salinity disasters. Agriculture, which is strongly influenced by nature, is now with unpredictable changes, and this economic sector is facing many significant risks and challenges. This article focuses on peasants’ response to maintain their livelihoods in the face of great natural shocks. The content of the report focuses on (1) analysing the impacts of climate changes on the traditional agro-ecosystems in Ben Tre; (2) the choices of peasants in Ben Tre province when natural capital to sustain agricultural production is compromised; (3) the choice of safe adaptation or change of livelihood for survival and development in the agricultural area of Ben Tre. This study is based on the theory of “Stretch livelihood” indicated the economic relationship between the Red River Delta and the Central Highlands in Vietnam.
