Abstract: Abstract The Mekong Delta is a socio-economic region with many potentials and advantages but is most affected by climate change and sea level rise. In the past time, the Mekong Delta has gained many achievements in socio-economic development, especially after nearly five years of implementing Resolution No. 120-NQ/CP. However, some potentials and advantages of the region have not been focused on and developed yet, which includes river economy. To implement Resolution No. 13-NQ/TW of the Political Bureau of Vietnam toward the sustainable development, the Mekong Delta region should concentrate on exploiting and effectively developing the river economy. Based on sharing comprehension about the river economy, the paper points out the advantages of river economic development in the Mekong Delta and proposes some solutions to exploit and develop the river economy, contributing to sustainable development in the Mekong Delta in the coming time.
