Chapter Chapter 6 in Cleaning and Corporate Management, 2023, pp 73-86 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Companies that sustain cleaning practices are bound to find that they become too routine. Cleaning is a mundane “bonji” task, and people get bored with it. What is the difference between companies where the “rut” brings its own rewards and companies that end up giving up before ever getting that far? This chapter compares companies that are new to cleaning and those with long years of experience. Because cleaning is not the actual work of the company, it does not get absorbed into existing systems and values. The result is that internal problems become more apparent than they do in the course of regular work. Through the cleaning process, many fundamental issues that had always remained implicit suddenly become keenly felt. Cleaning shakes up a company and exposes its fundamental problems. But if these problems can be overcome, then the company has the potential to improve and change significantly.
