Chapter Chapter 1 in Developing Property Rights Theory, 2023, pp 1-18 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The economic system reform carried out since China’s reform, and opening up is essentially property rights reform. The discussion of property rights theories encompasses both modern TPR and Marxist TPR. However, neither can explain and solve all the issues of China’s economic system reform. Based on a systematic and in-depth study and comparison of Marxist and modern property rights theories, we have put forward some new theoretical propositions in light of China’s actual situation. We believe that all institutional economics is about the economics of rights, which is property-rights economics. Therefore, property rights economics is also institutional economics, and the study of Marxist TPR and modern TPR is also the systematic study of institutional economics. This chapter begins with an analysis of the relationship between institutional economics and property rights economics. First, it paves the way for a systematic study and comparison of Marxist and modern property rights theory. Then, it expounds that the core of China’s economic system reform is property rights reform, which prepares for the later analysis of China's property rights system reform.
