Chapter Chapter 7 in Practicing R for Statistical Computing, 2023, pp 101-148 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The probability theory is considered the foundation of statistics, and R language has capability of working with probability, random variables, and probability distributions. This chapter addresses how to use R when dealing with elementary probability and related problems for a finite sample space. A variety of examples have been provided to illustrate many popular discrete and continuous probability distributions. Plotting of the distributions and generation of random variables have also been provided. This chapter also touches the use of two latest packages available for R to make new distributions and study other properties, namely “distr” and “distrEx”.
