Chapter Chapter 6 in Women in Aviation, 2023, pp 81-95 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract To sustain and retain the interest of women in aviation, it is important to provide a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages and promotes gender equality. This can be achieved through a variety of initiatives such as mentorship programs, networking opportunities, flexible work arrangements, and equal pay. Encouraging interest in STEM at an early age, both at home and in schools, is also important to help cultivate a diverse talent pool for the industry. This can involve providing access to STEM resources and activities, as well as promoting positive role models in the industry. It is also important to recognize that women have diverse interests and skill sets and may not necessarily be drawn to technical roles in aviation. Promoting and supporting opportunities for women in management and leadership positions is just as crucial as promoting technical roles, as this helps to diversify the perspectives and experiences in the industry. Finally, addressing cultural and societal expectations regarding gender roles and work-life balance is an important aspect of creating a supportive and inclusive environment for women in aviation. This can involve challenging stereotypes and biases, promoting gender equality in all aspects of society, and providing resources and support for work-life balance.
