Chapter Chapter 7 in Women in Aviation, 2023, pp 97-111 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The aviation industry is a rapidly growing field that requires a skilled workforce to ensure safety and efficiency. According to a report by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), women make up only about 5% of pilots and 3% of CEOs in the global aviation industry. In Southeast Asia specifically, the numbers may be even lower. This could be due to a variety of factors, including cultural and societal norms that discourage women from pursuing careers in aviation, as well as systemic barriers like bias in recruitment and promotion. In this chapter, the author aims to provide a perspective of how to build the capacity development for women in aviation industry as a response to the gap and barriers for women entering this industry, providing the current scenario, issues, and recommendations for future research on women in aviation embracing the gender equity as well as toward sustainability.
