Chapter Chapter 9 in Women in Aviation, 2023, pp 123-132 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This paper delves into the challenges faced by women in the aviation industry, particularly with regard to obstacles to entry and career advancement. The barriers to women’s success in the aviation industry include norms, bias, discrimination, a lack of support, a lack of role models as mentors, a lack of relevant policies, and limited access to training and development opportunities. Addressing these barriers requires a collaborative effort from employers, policymakers, and professional associations. This paper also outlines potential initiatives and strategies to overcome these obstacles, such as mentorship, networking initiatives, education and training programs, policy changes, and awareness campaigns. Ultimately, this paper provides valuable insights into the factors that affect women's decisions to pursue aviation careers and offers recommendations to increase diversity and equity in the industry.
