Abstract: Abstract A large body of research has focused on the importance of corporate governance (CG)Corporate governance (CG) since the release of the Cadbury ReportCadbury Report in 1992. The chapter provides a brief summary of what constitutes corporate governance and also the reason for the heightening of interest in this area. After having explained the evolution and functioning of the corporate form of entity, the chapter also focuses on the multiple theories on corporate governance. Since, country specific circumstances and institutional features play a big role in shaping the corporate governance regimes, therefore, distinct models and practices of corporate governance adopted in selected countries have also been discussed.
