Abstract: Abstract This chapter intends to review the preceding literature concerning China’s approach to energy security, introduce the state-managed marketization approach (SMMA), the dependent variable of this book, and set out the theoretical framework to be used to comprehend how and why China has taken this approach to deal with its energy security challenges.
