Abstract:
Abstract Climate change is said to be one of the biggest challenges for coastal countries. With a territory stretching over 15 latitudes, 28 provinces, and a coastline of more than 3000 km, Vietnam is exposed to many risks from climate change. Coastal socio-ecological systems face simultaneously environmental issues and disaster-climate risks, biodiversity degradation, and the sustainability of community livelihoods. This article presents the research results of the Center for Eco-Community Development (ECODE) in the period from 2017–2020 in Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province—which is the core zone of the Red River Delta World Biosphere Reserve. The objective is to assess the resilience to climate—disasters of the social—ecological system in coastal areas using an interdisciplinary and ecosystem-based approach (EbA). Accordingly, resilience to climate—disasters has been assessed according to the method of disaster climate resilience index (CDRI) with the development of 125 indicators and combined use of the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Based on the obtained results, measures to increase resilience and adaptability applying the nature-based solutions (NbS) have been proposed for the coastal area of biosphere reserve.
