Chapter Chapter 18 in Introduction to Green Science and Technology for Green Economy, 2024, pp 539-551 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract As mentioned earlier in this book, implementation of green chemistry principles for circular economy, implementation of green engineering principles for green economy, development of environmental management for achieving SDGs, development of green technology for carbon neutrality, and enhancement of green science and technology (GST) education programs for sustainable engineering are the priority education directions for scientists and engineers in pursuit of SDGs which should be illustrated in this chapter. Engineering is the application of scientific and mathematical principles for practical purposes such as the design, manufacture, and system operation processes, while accounting for constraints invoked by economics, the environment and other sociological factors. Sustainable Engineering can be defined as engineering for human development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It suggests that the sustainable engineering education programs should be focused on the areas of built environmental engineering, sustainable environmental engineering, natural environmental engineering, environmental health engineering, environmental planning and management engineering.
