Chapter Chapter 1 in Mastering Salesforce Quality, 2026, pp 1-16 from Springer
Abstract:
AbstractLate one Friday morning—right as the quarter was closing—a financial services firm pushed what looked like a harmless Salesforce tweak: a single validation rule on the Opportunity object. Within 90 minutes, their entire quote-to-cash cycle was stopped in its tracks. The new rule changed downstream behavior in ways no one anticipated. A record update caused an infrequently used Flow path to execute, which in turn updated data that triggered Apex logic and published a platform event to an external system. That external system—unprepared for the additional load and sequence change—failed silently. The impact surfaced later: opportunities stalled, quotes could not be generated reliably, and deals that should have progressed began to stall.
