Chapter Chapter 3 in Mastering Salesforce Quality, 2026, pp 39-54 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Test automation in the Salesforce ecosystem has outgrown its reputation as a technical nice-to-have. It’s no longer just about speeding up regression cycles or offloading repetitive clicks. In Salesforce, automation becomes strategic when it protects the workflows that create business risk if they fail. For example, if a release changes opportunity qualification logic, well-designed automation should catch whether lead conversion still works, whether downstream assignment rules still route records correctly, and whether quoting or case workflows are affected before those issues reach production. That is the difference between automation as a script library and automation as a delivery safeguard. But here’s the catch: automation only delivers ROI when it is intentional. Random scripts and record-and-playback bots won’t save you. What works is a design-first approach—starting with critical business flows, integration points, and failure-prone logic, then choosing the right test layers and automation scope to protect them.
