Abstract: Abstract After a brief biography of Augustin Cournot, this note gives a selective outline of his Recherches sur les principes mathématiques de la théorie des richesses and then discusses the acceptance of the book and its mathematical method by fellow-economists during Cournot’s life and after his death.
