Abstract At the end of the 1940s, the Cowles CommissionCowles Commission became the subject of increasing critiques. The growing wave of anti-communist sentiment made it more difficult to defend an analysis that extolled the virtues of central planning against the ills of capitalism. Milton FriedmanFriedman, Milton returned to Chicago, and his critiques of LangeLange, Oskar’s works as well as KleinKlein, Lawrence R.’s empirical approach were an important factor in the move to Yale of the Cowles CommissionCowles Commission a decade later.
