Abstract:
Abstract To understand medieval economic thought, Caspari gives an overview of economic development in the early and high Middle Ages. The economic and social development during the Middle Ages (approximately 600–1500 AD) followed a different path north and south of the Alps. The agrarian revolution, which was a significant factor in the development of the northern Alpine cities and the shift of the European centre of gravity from south to north, occurred mainly north of the Alps.
