Abstract: Abstract Founded in 1998, the HES-SO University of Applied Sciences (UAS) and Arts of Western Switzerland is a network of 28 higher education institutions located in the 7 cantons of French-speaking Switzerland. With more than 21,000 students (27% international students), the HES-SO is the largest UAS in Switzerland. Bachelor’s and master’s degrees are delivered in six faculties: Arts & Design, Business, Management & Services, Engineering & Architecture, Music & Performing Arts, Health Sciences, and Social Work. The HES-SO also offers a wide range of continuing education programs (MAS, EMBA, DAS, and CAS). Applied research and development are integral to the HES-SO’s mission. Each school has close ties with institutes, laboratories, or research units that carry out innovative projects with a variety of partners at regional, national, and international levels. The results of this research are channeled back into the study programs and provide cutting-edge learning to students enhancing graduates’ continued employability and consequently social and economic sustainability. Professors and lecturers come directly from the field, bringing along comprehensive scientific qualifications together with know-how from real-life implementation and references to concrete cases from actual practice. The study programs build upon the pre-existing practical competencies of their students. They offer scientific reflection and further development by connecting theoretical content with the concrete practical work experience students have already gained.
