A chapter in Academic and Educational Entrepreneurship, 2022, pp 9-14 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter of the book elaborates on the theoretical background of academic and educational entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is a multifaceted phenomenon that has both boundaries and overlaps with many disciplines. Hence, as a research field, entrepreneurship is intertwined with various theories which are rooted in the disciplines of strategic management, business economics, ecology, psychology, sociology, and network theories (Cuervo et al., 2007). In this chapter, only the most commonly cited theories in the entrepreneurship literature that relate to the “holistic academic and educational entrepreneurship framework,” e.g., resource-based theory (RBT), the personality-based theory of McClelland, network theories in the social sciences, institutional theory from economics, human capital theory, positive theory, and social cognitive theory, are summarized concisely. The aim of this chapter is thus to provide insights from theories that will improve the understanding of the framework mentioned above.
