Chapter Chapter 2 in Logistics Information Systems, 2024, pp 37-56 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter provides a comprehensive exploration of the technological foundations essential to the logistics field. It begins with Moore’s Law’s impact on technology development growth and subsequently delves into the hardware, operating systems, and enterprise software that support logistics systems. Data management, storage, and networking are recognized as pivotal components, and the options of virtualization, cloud, and edge computing are discussed. The chapter also introduces emerging technologies like quantum computing and in-memory computing and delves into the evolution of the web from Web 2.0 to the metaverse. Finally, it addresses practical concerns such as BYOD policies, offering readers an in-depth view of the infrastructure’s transformative role in Logistics Information Systems.
