Abstract: Abstract The fifteenth chapter presents the basics of digital automation and robotics. First, the historical development of digital automation and robotics is described. Building on this, the applications, processes, and functionalities of digital automation and robotics are explained. With the help of the 5-component model of digital automation, possible future developments in digital automation are presented. The chapter concludes with a comparison of the opportunities and risks of digital automation and robotics and their governance.
