Abstract: Abstract So that we may better comprehend how Brazilian society has changed in recent decades we built two indicators that simulate the origin and social destiny of families who lived in Brazil throughout the second half of the twentieth century. Unlike demographic and economic assessments, which analyze individuals’ social fates based on methodological individualism and focus on family heads, the data analysis focuses on the families. In our study, we suggest two socioeconomic indicators based on a methodological collectivist approach, with a focus on homes as the major focus. “The Social Dimension of Inequalities” is a Millennium Institute project that Silva oversaw (2008). An array of areas including health and education can benefit from the indicators.
