Chapter Chapter 21 in Quantitative Demography and Health Estimates, 2023, pp 271-286 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In recent years, there have been significant developments in the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of radiology, which are expected to improve the accuracy of diagnosis and treatment in the field of medical imaging. The aim of this paper is to study the level of knowledge and attitudes of technologists and medical radiologists in Greece regarding AI and its applications in radiology. Material and research method: 140 technologists and medical radiologists from all over Greece took part in this study. This quantitative study was conducted electronically using a questionnaire and its findings were analysed using the SPSS statistical program. The findings have showed that the radiologists’ level of knowledge about AI ranges from low to moderate. Despite the low level of AI knowledge in the field of radiology, most technologists and medical radiologists in Greece had neutral to positive attitudes towards the application of AI in medical imaging. Thus, it is essential to conduct more extensive research examining the benefits of the AI related software and their applications in radiology. Furthermore, relevant courses should be introduced in medical and radiology study programs of Greek university to help enhance the present knowledge, and eliminate misconceptions about the role of AI in medical imaging.
