Chapter Chapter 1 in Mexican American and Immigrant Poverty in the United States, 2011, pp 1-6 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract It is certainly well-known that racial and ethnic groups tend to be at a disadvantage socially, economically and in terms of overall well-beingwell-being in the United States. It is the intent of this book to underscore the extent of this disadvantage (by focusing on the extent of poverty) with special emphasis on Mexican Americans and Mexican immigrants in the Southwestern United States. This goal is accomplished by analyzing the poverty of these groups through the use of logistic regression at four levels: extreme poverty extreme poverty , 100% poverty 100% poverty (also known as the poverty thresholdpoverty threshold ), low income status low income status (200% of the poverty line), and relative poverty relative poverty (measured as 50% or less of the state median incomemedian income ).
