Abstract: Abstract What macroeconomic changes and achievements have the Chinese economy undergone during the Mao era? We first summarize the economic achievements and characteristics of the Mao era from several aspects, then consider the mechanisms that caused the growth and changes, and finally briefly review the institutional and policy backgrounds that enabled or created such a performance.
