Abstract:
Abstract The forecast for transportation systems in Russian cities is based on the hypothesis of catching-up development, according to which Russia’s urban transport evolution repeats the succession of events in western cities with a several decade lag. Thus, the analysis of the previous trends of urban transportation development in countries of the West is used for the forecast of the future trends in Russian cities evaluating. The chapter describes a few cases of the interrelationship between the motorization rate and public transport usage. Such factors of transportation system development in each particular city as the size of local budget, budget system issues, quality of local management are also discussed. One of the most important features in Russia is a leading position of Moscow and St. Petersburg in terms of the possibility the best global practices implementation. Hypothesis and estimations are projected to the road map of the transport supply technological development as it is described in recent publications. The most important changes are expected to be the emergence of the digital age transportation (massive networking and user integration via user interfaces of transport systems) and wide adoption of sharing economy models and driverless cars.
