Abstract:
Higher education plays a central role in the knowledge-based society, which role is fully acknowledged both at community and global levels. Moreover, being studentcentered, the higher education is a key factor for the development of a society increasingly based on knowledge. Apart from being a simple process of training aimed at unitiated people, higher education is a complex program involving teachers and students who contribute to the training of tomorrow's specialists. Taking into consideration the speedy changes in the market economy, our aim is to identify the current situation of the communication between the academia and the world of work. In addition, our intention is to spot the weaknesses of such relationship in terms of the transfer of knowledge, skills and competencies in the process of specialist training in academia.
