Abstract:
Effective municipal solid waste management takes relevant legal regulations that will assure efficient solid waste disposal system at the central level (nationwide) as well as the local level (in municipalities). The paper presents municipal solid waste disposal systems before the year 2000 in Poland, amendments to the legal regulations and the current municipal solid waste disposal system. This Article contains prerequisites for the regional facility for the municipal solid waste disposal (the so called RIPOK) developed by KOM-EKO S.A. [joint-stock company] (based in Lublin). For the purpose of depicting the whole picture of the facility, the figures of the volume of the solid waste that was collected and processed in the regional facility operated by KOM-EKO S.A. in the years from 2006 till 2015, the volume of municipal mixed solid waste supplied by the municipalities in the Central Region to the Solid Waste Disposal Company (ZZO) KOM-EKO S.A. in the years from 2012 till 2015 as well as biodegradable waste disposal efficiency rate and package waste recycling rate for the RIPOK were analysed. This elaboration as a whole is summarised by means of synthetic conclusions regarding practicability of the regional facility for the municipal solid waste disposal.
