Abstract: 14th issue of the "WIIW-WIFO Database on FDI" • Austrian enterprises were able to strengthen their position as investors in Eastern Europe. Their new investments in these countries more than doubled from EUR 1 billion in 1999 to EUR 2.1 billion in 2000, increased again to EUR 2.6 billion in 2001 and recorded another peak value at EUR 1.6 billion (USD 1.4 billion) for the first half of 2002. According to the available data, the investment boom continued right into the second half of 2002. The Austrian market share of new investments in Eastern Europe rose from over 8 percent in 2001 to more than 10 percent in the first half of 2002. Of the new investments in Central Europe, Austria contributed more than 12 percent.
