69th Euroconstruct Conference. Summary Report

N. N.

in WIFO Studies from WIFO

Abstract: The current recession is the most challenging in the construction industry for decades. Construction output fell in the Euroconstruct area by 8.8 percent last year and in 2010 a further contraction of 4.0 percent is expected. Non-residential construction is hit hardest by the crisis with a decline of 6.9 percent in 2010. Within this sector, construction of industrial (–19 percent) and office buildings (–16 percent) is affected the most in 2010. The forecasts for 2011 and 2012 expect a rise in output – especially in the four Eastern European countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia). Total construction is expected to increase by around 10 percent p.a. within these countries. In Western Europe an overall growth of about 0.6 percent is forecasted for 2011 and +1.8 percent for 2012, but with a very heterogeneous development among the countries. – The Euroconstruct Summary Report contains a macroeconomic analysis and an overview of the European construction industry by sectors (housing, non-residential construction and civil engineering) up to 2012. The Summary Report additionally includes most of the speeches of the 69th Euroconstruct Conference held in Dublin in June 2010.
