Chapter 2 in Electric Vehicles in Shared Fleets:Mobility Management, Business Models, and Decision Support Systems, 2022, pp 31-50 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
The increasing electrification of road transport poses challenges for the grids, but also offers new opportunities. Due to the charging of electric vehicles in particular grid technology issues arise. Electric vehicles should be charged according to demand without endangering safe grid operation or resulting in expensive grid expansion. An important instrument, especially for fleets, is charging management. In this chapter, the general principles of electromobility will first be described. The first topic is diversity from conventional vehicles with fossil fuels to pure electric vehicles. The basics of conductive charging, the different types of connectors worldwide and communication with the applicable standards are explained in the second part. Subsequently, the topic of charge management will be discussed with the various static charge strategies such as Equal or First Come First Serve (FCFS) as well as their influence on charging times and previous practical examples. Finally, a brief outlook is given on new possibilities such as vehicle-to-X applications and inductive charging.
