Chapter 2 in Trade and Investment in South Asia:An Analysis, 2019, pp 23-40 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
There are a number of factors that facilitate the starting and growth of domestic as well as foreign firms. These may be in the form of infrastructural development, easy documentation procedure, or a conducive regulatory regime. As against that, various factors also pose a threat to the flourishing of a business. All these factors exist almost in all the countries in different forms to different extents. South Asia also faces many of these issues. Being a developing region, South Asia faces many such difficulties, which deter the growth of business in the region to its potential. However, it also enjoys many facilities that make business easier. These factors are represented in the Ease of Doing Business Report of the World Bank. It is in this background the current chapter makes an attempt to elaborate on the various factors that simplify the growth of a business in the region. Along with the positive factors, the chapter also displays those factors that deter the growth of a business in the region.
